Ducarre aux Ambassadeurs
1893
9 7/8 x 13 in /
22.9 x 33.0 cm
Printed in black on wove paper, unsigned
Published by Ancourt as well as by L'Estampe originale (André Marty) as the ninth plate of Le Café Concert
In the foreground is Pierre Ducarre, manager of the cafés concert Alcazar d'Ete and the Ambassadeurs, and who, according to the performer Yvette Guilbert, always looked like a guest at a poor person's wedding. A year after this print was made, Ducarre would stiff Lautrec on the price of a poster for Aristide Bruant, possibly emphasizing the cheapness Guilbert found apparent.
