In a letter to his mother of 21 December 1893, Lautrec mentions a poster which he had to deliver by the middle of January 1894. It is possible that two color posters, similar in style, were designed for his friends Marty and Sescau at the beginning of the year. Andre Marty was a publisher and dealer, often mentioned as an admirer of Lautrec's graphics. He was also the publisher of L'Estampe Originale and of the other portfolios, and had founded the interior design business L'Artisan Moderne (The Modern Craftsman). The poster advertising the business shows a craftsman, the medallist Henri Nocq, taking instructions from his very charming lady client.
